Melvins [Endless Residency] Live Review (The Exchange, Bristol. 21/5/13 & 22/5/13)

Melvins. What can you say about them… one of thee most important bands in rock music? Yes, and that is about all you can really say. When the Melvins announced that they’d be playing their Endless Residency themed nights in Bristol, I knew that there was no way I could possibly miss them. NO WAY. Continue reading

Top 10… Anticipated Songs To Hear On the Melvins ‘Endless Residency’ Dates.

I’m a big Melvins fan. It’s no secret: they are without a doubt one of my favourite bands, and so when they announced they were doing four dates of their Endless Residency (two in London, two in Bristol) themed performances, there was no way I was going to miss it.

So on the 21st/22nd of May (two days from now), I’ll be witnessing Melvins plough through some of their classic releases in their entirety: on the  21st they will be playing Houdini, Lysol and Eggnog; and on the 22nd Stoner Witch and Bullhead. So what better way to channel my extreme excitement about it than to make a list of the songs that I’m most looking forward to hearing over the two nights at The Exchange in Bristol.

If you’re not familiar with Melvins, this is probably a good time/way to get into them too. Continue reading

GIVEAWAY COMPETITION!

So, on the 20/5/13, it’ll be the one-year anniversary of RichReviewz, and while it’s still a goldfish to a lot of whales as far as online music journalism goes, I’m proud of it so far. So, in celebration, I’m doing a giveaway competition!

What are the prizes? Well, I’m giving you guys the chance to win three CDs: Slayer’s “God Hates Us All”, Trash Talk’s “Eyes & Nines” and Pig Destroyer’s “Book Burner”, as well as a Tangled Parrot t-shirt of your chosen size.

To win these, all you have to do is simply share this post on Facebook, easy as that. I’ll take names of people who have shared the page, then when the competition is over, I’ll put all the names in a hat and pick out a winner – then I’ll mail said person, ask you for your shirt size and address, and then send the prizes your way.

I have to warn that this is a UK ONLY competition. I can’t afford to pay for international p+p sorry, as much as I’d like to. Competition ends on 1/6/13!

So yeah, you’re in for a chance to win three awesome releases and a t-shirt for free. GO!

Full Of Hell – “RUDIMENTS OF MUTILATION” Review

Full Of Hell - Rudiments Of Mutilation

Full Of Hell – Rudiments Of Mutilation
Genre: Powerviolence/Hardcore

Label: A389 Records

Full Of Hell are exactly that, a four-man hate machine that throws pure bile and fury at your senses, and have been grabbing themselves an impressively big reputation in the worldwide powerviolence/hardcore ‘scene’. Powerviolence is known as an extreme, but Full Of Hell have taken it further and further in their fairly short existence so far by strengthening the power electronics influence with each release. If you’re into something faster, heavier and involving far more disgusting vocals than your average hardcore band, then Full Of Hell are for you. Continue reading

Bongripper Interview and Live Review!

So, in late April, I was given the awesome opportunity to go the Bristol date of the Bongripper/Conan/Humanfly UK tour, and to chat with the guys with Bongripper. It’s another highlight in this whole music reviewing thing so far, I still can’t comprehend it. Anyways, if you want to check some of the Bongripper/Conan/Humanfly stuff on the MetalRecusants site, click this way.

So, it’s almost been a year…

…since I started this blog and reviewing music in general. In sort of celebration, I’m thinking of either doing a competition (it would be UK only, sorry!) or letting people decide by popular choice on a release I’d have to review… which could anything. ANYTHING.

Hoping there’s enough interest in this so people can leave some feedback, otherwise it’ll just be like a birthday celebration by my lonesome. So lemme know, for dignity’s sake!

EDIT: At this time, I’m thinking of maybe doing a competition for three albums I really like/highly recommend of 2013, SO FAR.

The Haxan Cloak – “EXCAVATION” Quick Review

The Haxan Cloak - Excavation

The Haxan Cloak – Excavation
Genre: Electronic/Drone

Label: Tri Angle Records

The Haxan Cloak is the electronic/drone project of London-based Bobby Krlic, and if the album cover doesn’t already give it away, he produces some of the most dark, haunting and atmospheric electronic music to come out of the UK for a long while. “Excavation” is his second full-length album, the first being a self-titled released in 2011. Death Grips Live Review (HMV Forum, London. 2/5/13)

If ATP couldn’t get enough of my respect already for putting on great events, they somehow squeezed some more out of me with this. Death Grips, anyone who follows this review blog should know, is a band who has done nothing wrong in my books and has been consistently blasted via my laptop, record player and iPod ever since “Exmilitary” came out. After unfortunately missing their previous shows/tours for various reasons, I made this particular gig in London a mission that could not be failed. Continue reading
