Ithaca – “TRESPASSERS” EP Review

Ithaca – Trespassers
Genre: Chaotic Hardcore/Hardcore

Label: COF Records / Soaked In Torment Records

If you’re new to this London lot like I was, let me share some basics: Ithaca are a five-piece that are pissed, mixing hardcore with chaos and emotive influence. Imagine a mash of Throats and Botch, with a bits of Curl Up And Die and Loma Prieta, and you’re pretty close – so to fans of the genres that those bands are associated with, Ithaca will seem familiar but fresh. This is their second EP to date and is made up of four short, sharp tracks. Continue reading

Catch-Up Reviews #5: Squarepusher, Moodie Black, Faith No More…

Rich Reviewz is coming back. Here’s some releases I’ve been enjoying recently for you to wrap your ears around…

Squarepusher – Damogen Furies

Squarepusher is Tom Jenkinson, a man who has pushed the boundaries of electronic music as far as possible since its inception in 1995. The list of his work and its variety is impressive for any musician of any genre and with each release, the direction he takes is completely unpredictable which is exactly what’s happened with “Damogen Furies” once again.  Continue reading

Submission Review Ideas.

Due to the growing number of submissions and falling number of free time, I’m thinking of knocking out maybe five mini-reviews of submissions in a post from now on, so I’m wondering if that’s a good idea to any readers?

I must have a good fifteen submissions now that I’ve left piling up (my bad, I know) and due to more hours at work (which I really need) and other sites to write for, my free time for this is getting smaller.

Sorry to anybody who has sent me their music looking for those full in-depth reviews I’d do, but it’s looking unlikely I can do them, so mini-reviews seem like the best way. Something is better than nothing, right?

Icky Blossoms – “Icky Blossoms” Quick Review

Icky Blossoms – Icky Blossoms
Genre: Electronic/Indie

Label: Saddle Creek

Icky Blossoms is the recent indie sensation to come from Nebraska, the trio compromising of Sarah Bohling, Derek Pressnall and Nik Fackler – all of whom have come from different bands and backgrounds. While it seems very confusing of what exactly each member’s role is (apart from Sarah and Derek both taking up vocals), the band seem to rely on the chilled approach to electronic pop, with a small witch house influence. Continue reading

Tongue – “Who Fired The Workers Of Happiness Factory?” EP Review

Tongue – Who Fired The Workers Of Happiness Factory?
Genre: Rock/Stoner Rock

Label: Self-released

Tongue are a band from Serbia, fronted by guitarist and vocalist Bizic Vladimir (AKA. Ripkid), formerly lead guitarist of the unfortunately disbanded hardcore punk pushers Lets Grow, who put out a strong amount of LPs and splits from 2001 to 2010. However, Tongue sees Vladimir taking a turn to a slower, groove-orientated rock direction. Continue reading

Gnaw Their Tongues – “Eschatological Scatology” Quick Review

Gnaw Their Tongues – Eschatological Scatology
Genre – Black Metal/Noise

Label: Self-released

Gnaw Their Tongues is the nightmarish brainchild of Dutch musician Maurice de Jong, who is known as much for his relentless output of releases per year as he is for his dark and challenging music. If you haven’t come across the project before, Gnaw Their Tongues pushes its listeners to the limits with noise and industrial influenced black metal, sometimes the former two styles fore-fronting  depending on the release. I want to do a wider variety of stuff on here

and I want you to help me!

I’ve been thinking of doing other features on here for a while, and three ideas that stick out for me are these:

– “Blast From The Past”  – a review of an album that’s considered a classic.
– “Top #”  – a list of my favourite whatevers (concept albums, EPs, themes, etc).
– “Introducing…”  – Introducing and talking about a band or artist I’ve recently discovered and like.

But I also have these ideas:

– “Most Wanted”  – if a number of people want me to review a certain album/single/EP.
– An occasional video (the fact that I have a strong Welsh accent probably makes this impractical).

So let me know which one/s you’d prefer to see on here! I’m open to more suggestions too, so let me know if you have any other ideas on what I could do.
