Top 30 Albums of 2015: 30-16

2015, overall, has been a year of slight disappointment when it came to music. There’s been a few releases I highly anticipated but ended up being a tad disappointed in, but that hasn’t stopped some rays of sun coming through. So here it is, the first half of my end-of-year-list for releases. A lot of these ended up being EPs for some reason.  Continue reading

Temples Festival 2015 Review!

So I went to Temples Festival again this year and you can read what I had to say on it over on the Echoes And Dust site (here) by extending the Richard Owens tab. There’s some Pig Destroyer worship in there…

Top 30 Albums of 2014: 30-16

Here’s the first half of the top 30 albums of 2014! While this year didn’t impress me anywhere near as much as last year, there were still dozens of great releases, especially in the second-half of the year. I guess as well, since this year has been very quiet for the Rich Reviewz blog (for personal reasons – 2015 will be the return of regular posts), you can see all the albums I’d wish I could have spoken about. Continue reading

Yorkshire Riffer Live Review (Eiger Studios, Leeds. 26/4/14)

‘Kin Hell Fest is the brainchild of Paul from No Fucks Given, which is on next weekend, and caters mostly to fans of crust, grind, thrash, death and all other extreme types of metal with the likes of Napalm Death, Undersmile, Massacre, Jesus Cröst and more playing across the whole weekend. Yorkshire Riffer is a sort of little brother to this main event, acting as a warm-up gig (just like the Salvation gigs are to Damnation festival). Despite this being the smaller gig, that doesn’t mean the line-up was anything less than great with the likes of doomsters Eagle Twin, Palehorse and beer-loving grinders The Afternoon Gentlemen ripping the audience apart for the night.  Continue reading

If You’re Going To… BLEH FEST 2013

BLEH Festival 2013Let’s face it, the UK hasn’t really got a big festival to support its grind/hardcore/powerviolence scene… that was until now, thanks to Zac of technical deathgrinders Oblivionized and recently formed Confine, there’s now a FREE festival situated in London that’s racked up an impressive line-up for a UK festival, let alone a free one. The two-day event is held at The Unicorn on Camden Road – so there’s a single stage and no clashes to worry about. GREAT! Continue reading

Feastem / Oblivionized Live Review (Le Pub, Newport. 13/6/13)

Wales is lucky to be graced with great gigs with most bands settling for Bristol as the most Western point of a UK tour; however (and luckily) this wasn’t the case for the Feastem/Oblivionized UK tour. Feastem, travelling all the way from Finland, and Oblivionized from London set Newport’s loveable Le Pub as their Welsh date and ended up being well worth the travel from South-West Wales, despite travelling/accommodation expenses being 12x the £5 door price! Continue reading

My Record Store Day 2013.

So once again on the rise of Record Store Day, I had another blast looking, buying and talking at my favourite (and only, ha!) local record shop, Tangled Parrot (you can visit their online store here). This was my third one (’10, ’12 and this year) but it’s my first since collecting vinyl and so this time around, the special releases interested me a whole lot more than ever before (I’d only buy CDs and watch performances in the previous ones). So, here it is, my swag report… yeah…  Continue reading

OBLIVIONIZED/PLAGUE WIDOW – “THIS BLACK EARTH” Split Review

Oblivionized/Plague Widow - This Black Earth

Oblivionized/Plague Widow – This Black Earth
Genre: Grindcore/Death Metal

Label: Malignant Manifestation Productions
/ Buried In Hell Records

In recent years, split releases seem to be gaining a rising popularity in underground metal/punk – a lot of the times offering some material that grows to be stapled as fan favourites. So, it is a great moment when London’s grinding Oblivionized and California’s furious Plague Widow release a split together named “This Black Earth” – exclusively released on 7-inch vinyl and cassette. A refreshing take on DIY in this digital age. But let’s talk about the music… Continue reading
