Social Studies – “SOCIAL STUDIES” EP Review

Social Studies - Social Studies EP

Social Studies – Social Studies EP
Genre: Hip-hop/Experimental hip-hop

Label: Daddy Tank Records

Social Studies is a duo project made up by vocalist Zano and producer Chris Devoe, and while their names are known, very little else seems to be known about them, managing to stay in the dark better than most artists who emphasise a hidden identity (although, MF Doom has been pretty on top of it). However, the duo behind Social Studies never really focus on this and simply deliver groundbreaking music – and perhaps it is with no platform to be biased on that it’s best to hear experimental hip-hop this way. Carnage At Christmas Live Review (The Parrot, Carmarthen. 13/12/12)

First off, there’s a confession to make: local gigs never really whip up any interest in me; at least not in comparison to the excitement of seeing international bands touring the UK. However, this event organised by Before The End Promotions reimbursed any faith I had lost in the local scene and rock/metal gigs in the Carmarthenshire area over the past few years. Top 20 Music Videos of 2012

We all love a good music video, right? Sometimes it can make you love or understand a song a little bit more, or it can be a complete bloodfest that you just concentrate on the visuals, or it can be plain funny – either way, these are my top picks for 2012. Enjoy. Continue reading

Top 10 Disappointments of 2012

Basically, this is a personal list of disappointments, be it that an album wasn’t as good as I’d hoped or a band broke-up or whatever. A negative list, but I’m sure a few of us can agree on a few. Continue reading

Neurosis / Godflesh Live Review (HMV Forum, London. 2/12/12)

All Tomorrow’s Party, or simply ATP, always organise great events and nearing the end of 2012, the organisation isn’t putting their foot on the brake just yet. Leading up to the infamous Cumber Sands event (which will begin a day after the writing of this), ATP managed to combine two monumental bands in a co-headline gig: Neurosis and Godflesh. SUGGESTIONS WANTED: End of the year lists.

November is coming to a close and it’ll be that time again when music maniacs everywhere will start thinking of lists to sum up their opinions in music. I’ll be doing the very same.

So far, these are the lists I’m thinking of doing:

  • Top 10 (or 20) Albums Of The Year
  • Top 10 (or 20) Songs Of The Year
  • Top 10 Disappointments Of The Year (Songs, albums and news)
  • Top 10 Music Videos Of The Year

Maybe I’ll do a top 10 live performances too, but that’s all I can think of. If anybody has ideas for more, please let me know!
