Catch-Up Reviews #4: Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra, Culted, Sunn O)))/Ulver, Behemoth…

As much as I hate to say it, these reviews will be sloppily done – I’d been building drafts of them for weeks now and I’m just impatient as there’s more stuff I want to do. I guess this will just be round-ups of my opinion on them rather than proper mini-reviews, sorry. I’ll be making up for it in the future, got some exciting stuff in the works!

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra – Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra - Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything

Thee Silver Mount Zion Memorial Orchestra (or if you’re like me: A Silver Mt. Zion) is the ever growing project of Efrim Menuck; multi-instrumentalist and core member of the renowned Godspeed You! Black Emperor. It’s undeniable that while A Silver Mt. Zion hasn’t left as much an impression on post-rock fans as GY!BE, it’s still a project that has its following and seems to be forever evolving. This is the seventh release by the ‘Silver Mt. Zion’ collection. Continue reading

Coffinworm – “IV.I.VIII” Review (and a small update).

Well, I guess now is a good time to say that I’ve joined the Echoes And Dust team! It’s a music site that I really dig, and I’ve been talking to a few people involved with it for a while and have grown to dig them even more. I’m really happy to finally join their ranks and even happier that my first review for them is Coffinworm‘s “IV.I.VIII”, which you can read here. Please give it a gander and give the album a listen… it’s been blasting in my ears constantly for weeks now.

As for Rich Reviewz news, I’m sorry for being slow and posting unsteadily. I’ve got a load of half-done reviews and a list of more to do. I don’t want to bring my personal life onto here, but the past seven months has been a massive low point and recently I’ve only admitted that maybe I’m not coping with events as well as I thought I was, and so I’m working on fixing that. Life has not been kind to say the least.

Even though some reviews are VERY late (I will be doing Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Have A Nice Life releases still), they will happen, I promise. I haven’t lost any enthusiasm for this site or the music, it’s just hard to find the energy and time. I promise to pick things up in the future although I can’t say when.

But to end on a high note: there might be some more really cool prospects in the future. Super excited about them!

OBLIVIONIZED/PLAGUE WIDOW – “THIS BLACK EARTH” Split Review

Oblivionized/Plague Widow - This Black Earth

Oblivionized/Plague Widow – This Black Earth
Genre: Grindcore/Death Metal

Label: Malignant Manifestation Productions
/ Buried In Hell Records

In recent years, split releases seem to be gaining a rising popularity in underground metal/punk – a lot of the times offering some material that grows to be stapled as fan favourites. So, it is a great moment when London’s grinding Oblivionized and California’s furious Plague Widow release a split together named “This Black Earth” – exclusively released on 7-inch vinyl and cassette. A refreshing take on DIY in this digital age. But let’s talk about the music… Continue reading

A Night Of Salvation III Live Review (Santiago Bar, Leeds. 2/11/12)

It’s the night before Damnation Festival 2012 takes place at the Leeds Union and walking through town alone, you notice a good number of people wearing extreme metal t-shirts, and it seems that they all end up at one place on the night: the Santiago Bar. Continue reading

RELAPSE RECORDS 10-CD SLASHER DEAL REVIEWS: Cirrhosis – “Drinks From Hell”

Cirrhosis – Drinks From Hell
Genre: Death Metal

Label: Cogumelo Records

If you search for Cirrhosis on the internet, you’ll learn that it is a medical condition described as ‘scarring of the liver and poor liver function. It is the final phase of chronic liver disease’. You’ll also find out that that one of the most common causes of this affliction is long-term alcohol abuse, and so it’s not hard to spot the band Cirrhosis’s running theme with the album cover, title and lyrics: ALCOHOL, DECAY AND DEATH.
